So today was Porters Kindy 500. Each kindergartner made a car out of a card board box and they walked around different places at the school. They learned about different places in the united states and about patriotic things. It was awesome and the kindergarten teachers did a ton of work. I thank them for that. But it was sure eventful. I want to tell you a little bit about it and give you a few tips in case you need to make a car. I will also post pictures of porter soon. The instructions for the car were simple like out of a high lights magazine. It was box car making for dummies at it's finest. The kids needed to be able to carry it around from class to class. So Simple it was. The main bolded with italics and underlined statement said "Let you kids paint it and do as much by themselves as they can , it will be more memorable if you let them do most of the work." So those of you who have 5 year olds that can make pink Cadillac's with windshields, and slug bugs that have cardboard curves. Wow more power to you. But I want to say those of you parent who wanted the best and wanted to one up everyone. You should stay and help your kids lug the dang things around next year.
Here are my tips to you parents after being a parent volunteer for 3 hours with the dang cars.
Tip #1- If your child can't get into the box at home. How the He _ _ do you think they are going to get into it at school? (my back is now strained due to this issue)
Tip #2- They have to carry it around for 3 hours so ones that weigh 100 pounds are not good for kindergartners and the parent helpers really don't want to drag it around the entire time.
Tip #3- Do not have the way your kids carry the box around be the box is weaved in and out of their belt. When they sit down it gives them one heck of a wedgie and then when they want it off they miss half the excitement due to taking their belt off and on.
Tip #4- Horns- not a good idea when the rest of the school is still trying to learn.
Tip #5 - 10 pound wheels don't stay glued on. When things fall off, kids fall apart.
Tips #6- This tip is for the black low rider truck with the amazing yellow flames on the side, chrome tail pipe, California license plate and Oakland Raider sticker.Make sure that the box can fit through door ways before you come. That was a real bummer. That car had to sit outside all day. They must have rented a uhaul to get it there, and there kid was the smallest kid in all 5 kindergarten classes.
So if you need any help with Kindy 500 cars, you know who to call.
